Taylor wasn’t at the People’s Choice Awards, but she did win the Favourite Country Artist award! Congratualations to Taylor.
The People’s Choice Awards last night (Jan. 11) in Los Angeles crowned Taylor Swift country music’s leading lady for the second consecutive year! The ‘Ours’ singer, who did not attend the ceremony, nevertheless won the trophy for Favorite Country Artist, beating out Blake Shelton, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum and Rascal Flatts to take the honor.
Taylor, whose first People’s Choice honor was the 2010 award for Favorite Female Artist, scored three nominations in 2011. The 22-year-old was also nominated for Favorite Female Artist and Favorite Tour Headliner, with Katy Perry winning the award in both categories.
Blake was also nominated for Favorite Male Artist, with the trophy ultimately going to Bruno Mars. Lady A’s album, ‘Own the Night’ was in the running for Favorite Album, which went to Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way.’
Faith Hill joined the festivities for the two-hour broadcast. The wife of Tim McGraw performed her current single, ‘Come Home’ during the telecast, earning a standing ovation from the crowd.
Katy Perry was night’s big winner, taking home five of the fan-voted awards. Other big winners included the cast of the Harry Potter movie, ‘The Deathly Hallows: Part 2,’ which won four awards, including one for Favorite Movie Ensemble Cast, Johnny Depp, who won two awards, for Favorite Movie Actor and Favorite Animated Voice, and Morgan Freeman, who beat out George Clooney, Harrison Ford, Tom Hanks and Robert DeNiro to win the first-ever People’s Choice Award for Movie Icon.
The eyes of country artists are now on the Grammy Awards, which will occur next month. Taylor and Jason are both nominated for three Grammys. Taylor’s nods are for Best Country Album (‘Speak Now’), and Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Song, for ‘Mean.’
Jason, who is enjoying his first-ever Grammy nods, is a contender for a Grammy for Best Country Album (‘My Kinda Party’), Best Country Solo Performance (‘Dirt Road Anthem’), and Best Country/Duo/Group Performance, for his chart-topping hit, ‘Don’t You Wanna Stay’ with Kelly Clarkson.
The 54th Annual Grammy Awards will air live from Los Angeles’ Staples Center, Feb. 12 at 8:00 PM ET on CBS.
It may be a big year on the big screen for country superstar Taylor Swift. According to Broadwayworld.com, she’s been offered the role of Eponine in the upcoming film adaptation of Les Miserables.
No word yet on whether she’s accepted the role, but if she does, according to the site she’ll join a star-studded cast that includes Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean and Russell Crowe as Javert, and possibly Amanda Seyfried in the role of Cosette.
The year started off stellar for another leading lady of country music, Miranda Lambert. Her fourth album, “Four The Record” has gone Gold and faster than any of her three previous albums, all of which are Platinum. Lambert also recently released a second single from the album “Over You,” a personal song written by her and husband Blake Shelton, and she’s gearing up to start her “On Fire” tour January 12th taking Chris Young and Jerrod Niemann on the road with her.
Also with touring news, Brad Paisley has changed the name of his upcoming run after holding rehearsals and getting inspired by his new set-up. The tour will now be called “Virtual Reality World Tour 2012.” Plus Lady Antebellum received big news before hitting the road for their “Own the Night 2012 World Tour,” as they earned the title of biggest selling group of 2011 with more than 2.1 million album sales according to Nielsen Soundscan. It’s the second year in a row they’ve achieved that status.
With in-studio news, Tim Mcgraw’s latest studio album “Emotional Traffic” which had been at the center of a legal battle with Curb Records has been given a release date of January 24th. The album features the No. 1 hit single “Felt Good on My Lips” and also a Ne-Yo collaboration.
And for this week’s featured song of the week Trace Adkins is in the spotlight, as he goes from ringing in the new year on Fox News Channel to being named “Artist of the Month” by “This Is NRA Country”… and we mark the news with his outdoorsy and family inspired video “Just Fishin’.”
Taylor Swift and Adele might be joining the likes of Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Britney Spears as the latest pop superstars to grace the cover of famed fashion magazine Vogue.
Fashionista.com reports that after some initial speculation about who had made the final cut, sources confirm that Swift will appear on the February issue and that Adele has been tapped for March, which also happens to be the spring fashion issue.
A rep for the magazine wouldn’t confirm or deny the reports, simply telling MTV News in an email, “We don’t comment on future cover speculation.”
New York magazine’s the Cut blog reports that speculation about Adele’s cover began to spread when the magazine was reportedly asking designers to provide clothes in her size.
“Designers have been asked by the title to make special cover outfits for the full-figured chart-topper for the all-important March issue,” according to the report, which first surfaced on Women’s Wear Daily. Adele previously appeared on the cover of the October issue of Vogue U.K.
Meanwhile, Swift has appeared on the cover of the tween version of the magazine, Teen Vogue, and was spotted with editor-in-chief Anna Wintour at the Rodarte Spring 2012 show at Fashion Week, where she also sat alongside November’s cover girl, “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” star Rooney Mara.
In other magazine news, V Magazine has confirmed that Justin Bieber will appear on its cover, which hits newsstands on January 12. The cover was shot by photographers Inez and Vinoodh, who worked with Lady Gaga on her “Yoü and I” short films. The Bieber cover was styled by the Mother Monster’s right-hand man, Nicola Formichetti.
CoverGirl has discontinued (translation: yanked) a print advertisement of celebrity spokes-singer Taylor Swift following an investigation into alleged retouching.
Said ad shows a dewy-faced, long-lashed Swift striking a pose for the company’s NatureLuxe Mousse Mascara; the large print boasts consumers’ eyelashes will get “2X more volume” while the small print offers a disclaimer of sorts. “Lashes enhanced in post production,” it reads.
Thus began an inquiry led by the National Advertising Division, which requested CoverGirl prove its mascara could double the volume, as it claims. Rather than cave to the watchdog group’s demand, however, parent company Procter and Gamble went forward and struck down the ad, saying in a statement (via Yahoo! Shine): “Upon receiving the inquiry from the NAD, P&G discontinued the advertisement in question. The NAD has deemed our intervention as accurate and proper. We have always been committed, and we continue to be committed, to featuring visuals and claims that accurately represent our products’ benefits.”
Swift, 22, has appeared in a string of spots for the makeup giant, but this is her first run-in with the photoshop police.
“You can’t use a photograph to demonstrate how a cosmetic will look after it is applied to a woman’s face and then — in the mice type — have a disclosure that says ‘okay, not really,’” NAD director Andrea Levine told The Business Insider.
U.S. and international advertising watchdogs are advancing in their goal of enforcing honesty in beauty ads — namely, through banning Photoshop-altered images that represent an unrealistic, airbrushed version of reality. In July, the U.K.’s Advertising Standards Authority banned cosmetics ads featuring Julia Roberts and Christy Turlington because they were digitally enhanced.
Attention, country music fans! Mark your calendars; the lineup for Capital Hoedown 2012 has been announced and it’s bigger and better than ever.
“Our first year, we had traditional country artists, and last year, it was all new country,” says Denis Benoit, President and CEO of Concert International. “This year, what we’ve done is we’ve brought them both together.”
Making her only scheduled appearance in 2012 so far, Taylor Swift will perform at the third edition of Capital Hoedown, one of North America’s biggest country music festivals.
The one and only Reba McEntire, the Queen of Country, will also perform a headlining set, as will Brad Paisley, one of country music’s biggest superstars.
There is a good mix of traditional and newer country artists in Capital Hoedown 2012’s lineup, meaning there is something for everyone.
With a lineup this big, Benoit says a change of venue was in order to accommodate a much larger audience.
Capital Hoedown 2012 will take place Aug. 10-12 at Walter Baker Park (Terry Fox Drive at Maple Grove Road) — a Kanata venue that is big enough to host more than 30,000 people.

For fans who were present at Houston’s Minute Maid Park this past weekend, it was not “Just A Dream”—Nelly actually did perform a duet with Taylor Swift. The news isn’t too surprising, considering that Swift has been outspoken about her love for hip-hop in recent months. The country-pop singer is currently performing dates on her Speak Now tour and after inviting T.I. to join her onstage mere days after his release from prison, Swift decided to continue her hip-hop outreach by teaming up with Nelly.
During an August tour stop in Nelly’s hometown St. Louis, Swift had performed her own rendition of the hit “Just A Dream,” but while in Houston she decided to let Nelly deliver it himself. While her band played a few chords from the track, Swift teased the audience, saying, “I’m really excited right now, we have a special guest.” Then, she let them have it, announcing, “Ladies and Gentlemen, Nelly is here.”

Taylor Swift’s journey to the top has been nothing short of epic. With more than 20 million albums sold and countless awards won, including four Grammys and the ACM Entertainer of the Year honors, her whirlwind career that only just began about five years ago is already one for the history books. Sadly, the star-studded benefit comes only a year after a flood ravaged Nashville, prompting another benefit similar to this one.
