Our Song
“We had a strong relationship and we had a lot of fun those years, and we still do, but we are just friends now.”
Picture To Burn
“Before I sing this song, I always try to tell the audience that I really do try to be a nice person… but if you break my heart, hurt my feelings, or are really mean to me, I’m going to write a song about you. Haha. This song is the perfect example.”
Describing the music video: “The storyline of the video is, if you break up with me, my band will ransack your house.”
Should’ve Said No
“I like to encode capital letters in the printed lyrics, so they spell out phrases. I encoded the ‘Should’ve Said No’ guy’s name over and over. It was only his first name, but everyone figured it out. I’d get texts from him. He was scared out of his mind I’d crucify him on a talk show. All I could think was, ‘Well, you should’ve said no. That’s what the song is about.’”
Teardrops On My Guitar
“He was a guy who I met freshman year of high school. He had the most beautiful eyes and this amazing smile. He was so cute and nice – and he talked to me every day… about his girlfriend! Which is like the screeching brake sound. But I had it bad for him. And I just kept thinking, ‘Why am I so invisible to him? Why does he have to have a girlfriend?’ I never told him that I liked him, but I did write a song with his name on it – so I think he knows now.”
Tim McGraw
“I wrote the song in my freshman year of high school. I was dating a guy who was about to go off to college. I knew we were going to break up so I started thinking of all the things that I knew would remind him of me. Surprisingly, the first thing that came to mind was that my favorite country artist is Tim McGraw.”
Reviews
“That Swift is a talent to be reckoned with is never in doubt: her delivery on tracks like the uptempo “The Outside,” the spare acoustic ballad “Mary’s Song (Oh My My My),” and especially the leadoff track, “Tim McGraw,” which was the first single from the album, is that of a seasoned pro, despite Swift’s newcomer status. She’s come up with a commendable starter album that’s as accomplished as any by a ten-year veteran who’s seen a lot more road and felt a lot more emotion.”

“And with her 12-string guitar, she does a fabulous job of blending modern country with the traditional.”
